A Trip to the Paris Flea Market

Well, a virtual trip anyway.  It’s Club Scrap’s monthly blog hop featuring the “Paris Flea Market” kit!  You can see all the fun creations by starting at the Club Scrap blog

My friend Jeannie makes beautiful baskets.  She also teaches basket weaving classes, but unfortunately I don’t live near her anymore so I can’t participate.  I was trying to channel her talents when I combined this tutorial from Splitcoast Stampers and my Club Scrap Lite kit to make this:
Everything I used can be found in the “Paris Flea Market”Lite kit  except:

**I used Club Scrap Ash ink  to distress the edges of some of the woven strips.
**The sentiment is from Club Scrap’s “Blossoms” kit, stamped with Versa Mark, embossed with Club Scrap Hematite embossing powder and cut out with Spellbinders dies.
**The flowers are from Michaels (the white one) and Prima, altered with Victorian Velvet Distress ink.
**The brads and bling are from my stash.

As a “bonus” project I made this card for my daughter because I knew that she would really love this quote:
All the paper and the ribbon came with my “Paris Flea Market” Lite kit.  The middle panel was created by stamping a CS “Woven Strands” stamp (I think it was the Art Nouveau stamps and they don’t seem to be available anymore) with VersaMark ink and embossing it with CS Hematite powder.  Then I got to play with my new Color Bursts Liquid Metals (Metallic Mandarin, Metallic Rose and Metallic Saffron) that I had shipped with my kit.

Because the color white and I don't usually get along very well, I inked the background paper with Squeezed Lemonade Distress ink, then sponged the edges with Spiced marmalade Distress ink.  I also inked the cut-a-part sentiment panel with CS Carnation ink , then highlighted it with the Metallic Saffron Color Burst.   The bling was from my stash, altered with Copic Marker.

Now all that is left is to fill this basket with goodies for someone’s birthday, and get the card in the mail to my daughter to help brighten her day.

P.S.  My basket weaving friend Jeannie lives in Nebraska.  If you are interested in taking classes from her, or if you have a few extra minutes and want to check out her beautiful baskets, you can visit her website here!

Going Gingham

The weekly challenge over at Gina K’s Stamp TV is to use something “gingham”.   After giving this some thought, I set about to make a card with a plan in mind.  Here is the final product (which doesn’t look anything like that plan I had in my head):
I tried to create a “gingham - like” background using a stamp from Stampin’ Up and Gina K’s Cherry Red ink.  For the circles, I used a Gina K stamp from  the “Elegant Elements” set.  It was stamped on glossy cardstock, heat embossed, covered in Ranger Alcohol Ink (Poppyfield and Red Pepper), then the embossing ironed off.  I cut out the circles and mats using dies from Spellbinders.

Other supplies I used:
**gingham ribbon from Gina K.
**sentiment from Club Scrap’s “Tribal” kit, stamped with black VersaFine ink and embossed with Gina K’s clear Fine Detail embossing powder (the rest of the stamp says “what were we thinking?”, which I stamped inside).
**paper from Gina K (base of card) and Club Scrap.
**I finished off the circle designs by adding some bling from my stash.

Start With The Ribbon…

My Jazzercise instructor brought in green ribbon to share for the St. Patrick’s Day class.  Since I didn’t wear green that day, I used one of them.  Not wanting to assume anything, after class I asked Sharon if she needed the ribbon back.  She didn’t, so I brought it home.

Anytime a piece of nice ribbon that is in good shape comes into my house, it ends up in my ribbon basket to be upcycled.  Since my ribbon basket is already full, and I can’t throw perfectly good ribbon away, I decided to give the ribbon back to Sharon…disguised as a set of notecards:
I used a quick and easy technique that I found in the old Technique Junkies newsletters called “Embossed Puzzle”.

My supply list is:
**paper from Gina K and Club Scrap
**Distress ink colors are:  Mowed Lawn, Picked Raspberry, Mustard Seed and Ripe Persimmon
**embossing folder is from Spellbinders
**”Aloha” stamp is from Taylored Expressions, stamped with VersaMark ink, embossed with Lindy’s Stamp Gang Midnight Copper powder
**ribbon is from Sharon at Jazzercise!

Spring Combo Challenge at Stamp TV

This week’s challenge at Gina K’s stamp TV is to combine a flower focal image with using a die to emboss…not cut.  It took a little thinking and planning, but here is what I came up with:
After taping off the edges of a piece of white cardstock, I sponged on Gina K ink (Innocent Pink and Tomato Soup).  While the ink was wet, I brushed on Perfect Pearls (Biscotti).  The panel was then “embossed” with the “Retro Cutting Plate” from Taylored Expressions.

When I use any kind of sprays on a project, I always have extra paper around to create some interesting backgrounds from the “extra” spray left on the mat.  The flower on this card was stamped onto a scrap of one of those art orphans.  The Gina K stamp is from from the “Especially For You Duo”.   I used Archival Ink (Potting Soil) and Gina K Fine Detail Clear embossing powder, then fussy cut it.

I finished the card with ribbon from Gina K (sorry, I couldn’t find it in their shop), a sentiment tag (Gina K “Happy Birthday Duo”) and some “gems” from my stash that I altered with Copic Marker.  I also used Distress Ink (Fossilized Amber) to distress the edges of the white papers.  The paper is from Gina K and Club Scrap.

Club Scrap March Technique Challenge

This month’s Technique Challenge on the Club Scrap Blog is the Masterboard Technique, which was something new to me.

I have two confessions to make.  One is that I don’t do “random” very well.  So this technique definitely took me a little out of my comfort zone.  The second confession is that I can be somewhat of a rebel at times.  So, I did this challenge with a slight twist.   Here is my masterboard:
Using stamps from Club Scrap (Fossils and By the Seashore Remix), I stamped them randomly - but not without some stress - with VersaMark ink onto Strathmore Watercolor paper, and embossed them with Copper Foil EP from Club Scrap (unfortunately not in the store anymore).   I then water colored the panel using Glimmer Mist (Apple, Tiger Lily and Electric Blue).

I decided to make a set of notecards with my colorful panel:
The paper is all from Club Scrap.  I embossed the background panels using a folder from Lifestyle Crafts, then inked them with Forrest Moss Distress Ink.  I cut the Masterboard panels using Spellbinder dies.  The ribbon is Club Scrap (I think Navigation?).

I followed Tricia’s Paper Purse tutorial to make a holder for this card set:
The paper is also from Club Scrap.  I used the Forrest Moss Distress ink with a stamp from Technique Junkies.  The decorative panel is stamped with a stamp from Club Scrap Fossils (less stress!), embossed and water colored the same as the masterboard.

Now I have a gift already made the next time something unexpected pops up, or I get behind - which is probably more likely!
