Spring is in the Air!

We moved to Hawaii last summer, and believe me when I say that I did not miss the winter weather for one tiny second.  However, spring has always been one of my favorite seasons, and I think I might miss watching the world “wake up” from its winter slumber.  This week’s challenge at Gina K’s Stamp TV is to create something with the look of spring, and no black allowed.  I tried to capture what I feel about the season:
The background is a technique that I got from Technique Junkies CD “Emboss or Die” called “Artsy Dimension”.  It uses Liquid Pearls (Buttercup and Cantaloupe) on water color paper, coated in embossing powder (Lindy’s Stamp Gang Sunset Yellow Orange which is translucent).  I then dry embossed it using Taylored Expressions “Walking on Sunshine” folder

The blue panel is Ranger Alcohol Ink (Sail Boat Blue, Cloudy Blue and Silver) on glossy paper.  The flower image is from Gina K’s “With Love and Prayers Mini Stamp.  It was stamped using Archival Ink (Olive for stems, Saffron for flowers), then embossed (Gina K’s Fine Detail EP on stems, Lindy’s Stamp Gang Sunset Yellow Orange on flowers).

The other supplies I used are:
**paper from Gina K (Powder Blue base), Club Scrap (Glossy, and yellow mats) and Strathmore Watercolor paper.
**sentiment stamp is from Club Scrap (“Dream in Color” kit), stamped with Chipped Sapphire Distress Ink, embossed with Lindy’sStamp Gang Morning Glory Azure.
**ribbon from Club Scrap (“By the Numbers” kit), altered with Copic Marker (B000).

Crewel & Unusual Blog Hop

If you are here from the Club Scrap's "Crewel & Unusual" Blog Hop & Linky Party, welcome!  If not, you should go check it out!
Hi!  I am Rose and I am a paper crafter…and a bit of a technology dinosaur.  It’s not that I don’t use and love my smart phone, laptop, etc.  There are just some things that I don’t think should be “technology-ized”.  My address book is one of them.  So, when I decided that I needed a new address book, I went down to my favorite stationery store ready to find my new perfect book.  They didn’t have ANY!  I couldn’t find one I liked anywhere.  A bit of a surprise to this dinosaur, but no worries.  I am a paper crafter.  I can make my own!

There was a bunch of book board-like pieces in the cartons of some new “put together yourself” furniture we recently purchased.  That and my Crewel & Unusual Lite kit  came together to make this:
The green print for the background on the covers was coated with Glimmer Glaze (Saffron) which gives it an almost leather like finish as well as the great golden color.  The “hinges” were cut from the red paper using a Spellbinders die, then embossed with Lindy’s Stamp Gang Bysantine Bronze embossing powder.  One of the cut-a-parts was trimmed and split between the front and back cover.  The one on the front was stamped with the quote from CS Mosaic Twist using CS Amethyst ink, and the flourish from CS Vogue using CS Ruby ink.  Both were then embossed with Lindy’s Stamp Gang Sunrise Salmon Gold embossing powder. The ribbon, waxed linen thread and heart charm were all included in the Lite kit.

The ivory print was used to decorate four of the divider tabs.  The other four started with the ivory plain paper.  The Technique Junkies background was stamped using CS Sandstone ink, then the Club Scrap stencils from Be Still and Crewel & Unusual were used with CS ink in Ruby, Topaz and Amethyst, and Forest Moss Distress ink.  The tabs were stamped using the font stamps from CS Refresh, then coated with Lindy's Stamp Gang Starlight Gold Green embossing powder. The pages were created using Power Point, then printed out on cardstock from Staples.

I love it when a plan comes together, don't you?  Thank for stopping by!

Emboss Resist Challenge at Stamp TV

Resisting can be so much fun!  This week’s challenge over at Gina K’s StampTV is to use an emboss resist technique.  Here is the card I made:
I used Distress Re-Inkers (Mowed Lawn and Evergreen Bough) and Club Scrap Re-Inker (Lagoon) to watercolor the panel.  The “resist” part is a background stamp from Tim Holtz, stamped with VersaMark ink and embossed with Zing Gold powder.

The focal image is from Gina K’s "Tropical Nature" set.  I stamped it on some Shimmering Cardstock from Crafter’s Companion, then colored it in using Copic Markers (G28, YG67, E53, Y11, Y21).  The sentiment is from Gina K’s “Especially For You Duo” , stamped with VersaMark ink and embossed with Zing Denim powder.

The other supplies I used are:
**paper from Gina K (Navy base), and Club Scrap
**ribbon from Club Scrap.  Small “gems” from my stash, altered with Copic Marker.

Club Scrap Masking Tape Challenge

February’s Technique Challenge over at Club Scrap is to use masking tape.  Roni gave examples of three different ways to use masking tape.  When I saw this one...

...I, for some reason, thought of the kelp fields that I saw in the Monterrey Bay Aquarium in California (don’t ask me how I made THAT connection!).  So, I decided to make a non-traditional Valentine’s Day card for my husband:

After masking off the “kelp” on a piece of green paper, I sponged on Club Scrap “Ocean” and “Lagoon” ink.  It is really hard to tell the difference in color, but I like the overall effect.  With the tape still in place I stamped and embossed the fish from the CS Seaside Unmounted set.

After removing the tape I used some of the “Ocean” ink to stamp a background with a “water” stamp from Seaside Stampin’Ink.  The turtle from CS Castaway, and the sentiment from CS Raku were stamped with VersaMark and embossed with Lindy’sStamp Gang Embossing Powders. I love the metallic, shimmery properties of these powders which unfortunately do not photograph very well.

Finally, I sprayed the whole panel with Iridescent Memories Mist to really give it the watery appearance.

The other supplies I used are:
**paper from Club Scrap (green base from “Equestrian”, copper mat from “Ornamental”, green background from “Come Sail Away”).
**ribbon from CS “Just Dandy”.  Heart charm I think came from Club Scrap also, but not sure which kit.

Gina K Kraft Challenge

Ok, I’ll admit it – Kraft is not one of my go to colors.   But when I saw this week’s Gina K “Kraft Challenge”  I dove right in.  This is what I came up with:

No special techniques on this card…unusual for me.

My supply list is:
**paper from Gina K, Club Scrap, and my scrap pile.
**sentiment and image stamps are both Gina K “Quite a Catch” set
**background stamp is from Seaside Stampin’ Ink, stamped with Distress Ink
**die is from Taylored Expressions
**Crab image colored in with Distress Markers, sentiment stamped with Versa Mark, embossed with Stampendous powder
**Ribbon from Club Scrap. Not sure the brand of the nail heads, but I found them at Michaels awhile ago.
