Club Scrap “Celebrations”

For me, one of the hardest parts of any paper crafting project is making decisions.  What papers should I use?  What kind of design?  What technique should I try on this one?  That is one reason that I like to find any kind of challenge to get me started.

I wanted to make some cards to donate to the Lasting Hearts card drive which I found out about on Jennifer Mcguire’s blog.   They are collecting cards and donations for mothers who have had a miscarriage.  While the theme of this month’s Club Scrap “Celebrate” kit doesn’t exactly pair well with the theme of the card drive, I hope I managed to create some cards that might at least let someone know that people care.

I started with the circle cut-aparts from the Lite kit, found some OWH sketches to use (specifically sketch numbers 52, 74, 141, 152) and went on from there.  All the paper is from Club Scrap…

**The background was embossed using a folder from The Paper Studio, then inked with CS Metallic Silver ink. The sentiment stamp and the ribbon are from CS “Seaside”, the sparkly stickers are Dazzles and the brad is from my stash.

**I covered up the center of the circle cut-apart with some of the sparkle paper cut with a Spellbinders circle die, then colored with a copic marker.  The sentiment stamp is from CS “Seaside”.  The chipboard butterfly is from Recollections, covered with embossing powder (I did it a while ago, so I don’t remember which powders I used).  I also added some Dazzle stickers and upcycled ribbon.

**I again used the embossing folder from The Paper Studio on the backgrounds.  The oval was cut using a “We R Memory Keepers” die, then cut in half.  “A hug 4U” is from CS “Gratitude”.  The “thinking of you” sentiment is a sticker from my stash. Red ribbon is upcycled, black ribbon is from CS “Cinema”. I sprayed the red circle with Iridescent Memories Mist and added some Dazzles to the other so they would have some sparkle.

**The background is a stamp from CS “Tilescapes”.  The chipboard flower is from Recollections and again covered with EP (but don’t remember which one for this either).  The brads are from my stash.

Gina K Weekly Challenge – “Let’s Have Some Color”

Hi!  I am so excited that I am finding my creative mojo again!  This week’s Gina K Challenge is to use three colors, Orange, Green & Blue.  I put them together to make this card for a friend:

I followed this sketch from Operation Write Home’s website.  (Even though the organization is no longer in business, they have kept the creative content on their site for all to use.  You should check it out!)

For the banners, I stamped an image from the Elegant Elegance set onto Ranger Water Color Paper using VersaMark ink, then embossed it with white Zing embossing powder.  I used Distress Stains to add the color.  The background was stamped with the background from the Frame and Filler set and the sentiment is from Happy Birthday Duo.

The other supplies I used are:
**paper from Gina K, Club Scrap, Ranger
**Distress stain colors are:  Peeled Paint, Shabby Shutters, Spiced Marmalade, Dried Marigold, Faded Jeans and Tumbled Glass
**background stamped with Distress Ink (Spiced Marmalade), sentiment stamped with Gina K (Charcoal Brown)
**I used a square die from Spamplistic to make the banner shape, the sentiment tag was cut with a Spellbinders die.
**ribbon is from Gina K

Club Scrap Jan. Technique Challenge - Origami Folded Elements

Hello and Happy New Year!

After moving from Virginia to Hawaii last year, then getting settled into our new home, followed by the holidays, I am so excited to be spending time in my scrap space again!  The time away from all my crafty toys and goodies lasted far too long.  Yes, I did do a lot of painting in the new house, but it is just not the same as playing with paper and getting my fingers inky.

When I saw the Club Scrap January Technique Challenge I decided I was going to jump right in.  Since I had a scrapbook layout already in the works, I just changed things up a bit to include some Origami Folded Elements and here is what I came up with:

I got the idea for the Origami stars from Julie's CS Blog post, which led me to here where I found easy to follow directions.  I used some scrap vellum, coloring the two smaller stars with Distress Stain (Tarnished Brass) first.

Here is a list of the other supplies I used:
**all paper is from Club Scrap except the strip across the top which is Graphic 45.
**I inked the embossed background paper with Tsukneko Brilliance ink in Galaxy Gold.
**the fleur-de-lis is cut out from a CS "Moroccan Spice" cut-a-part, the journal card is from CS "Scholarship".
**the title stickers are from Thickers, and I think came in the CS "Just Dandy" kit.

Mahalo for stopping by!
